Courting

We judged these two to be no more than 16 years old, the age at which Amish young men are given the use of a courting buggy. We passed them on our trip through Penns Valley last weekend. The view provides quite a contrast to the sorts of conditions under which English counterparts to these two engage in a similar activity. Even though this image wasn’t the best (it was taken through the windshield) I liked it because it made me remember the sense of freedom I felt when I first took a young lady for a ride in my father’s 70s vintage Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. [Not-so-long story, I ended up with a speeding ticket!] I wonder whether these two experienced a similar feeling of liberation. I also wonder, really wonder, what they were talking about.

  1. What a great pic! I’d venture to guess they’re just as giddy and excited as any teenagers out on a date. Some things are happily universal, no matter what mode of transport you take to get there!

    • Yeah, I suppose. Thanks, yet again, for taking time to comment. I hope your work is going smoothly and you’re finding time to have good times as well. I hope Derek (? – is that his name) has plans to be out to visit you shortly! D
