Our geese have had a difficult time of it this year. The goose began setting her clutch toward the end of February. March brought some very cold nights and by the beginning of April it was clear that the clutch had failed. Much to our surprise and delight the goose set about a second clutch at the beginning of May, a month which brought some very, very, warm days. Over the weekend I thought it was time to sneak a peek at the nest. Unfortunately the extremes in weather had taken a toll save this single gosling. His parents doat with all of their attentions. The little one is just a day old in the photo – notice the egg tooth at the tip of its beak.
