We have had geese on the farm for some time now. At first we raised Africans on pasture; they were beautiful animals. Because these didn’t breed well on their own we tried incubating eggs, with little success. Several years ago we got hold of some barnyard Toulouse from folks who had posted an add at our local feed mill. These birds didn’t breed well either. Last year we purchased a number of Toulouse at a distant feed mill. When it came time for our Christmas goose we decided to hold a pair back as breeders. Pictured here is our current group of pasture-raised goslings. Except for a hail storm that almost put an immediate end to the project, the group is doing very well indeed.
